APN Prep Sheet – Assessing YOUR Preparedness Levels

Since you are interested in this Prepper’s site, you probably have acquired an interest in your personal survival along with that of your family and friends.

Knowing who we are, and why we do things are fundamental to our existence. Without these, we tend to walk aimlessly through life and waste time and effort on unnecessary pursuits.

That is why I believe an initial analysis of where we are at, what we want, and where we want to go are very useful in our pursuits towards preparation. Personally, I believe a lifestyle centered around a good quality homestead with quality people around us is best.  The problem arises as to HOW to get there from here.  This is why the APN (American Preppers Network) was founded.  WE can make things happen together. No free-loaders, just good helpful support and direction from fellow seekers.

Here are some basic, yet crucial, concepts to address within your life to help you make more successes than failures!  We can do only so much in the world around us, so if each of us is aware of what we are personally looking for, we will be more apt to survive, and for the right reasons.

This is a different look at 10 important reasons FOR and AGAINST self preparation.  Firstly, it is possible that some of these reasons could go either way, for or against.  Why is this so? Well, just about every topic in society has opposing views, and for some reason, there are people out there who disagree with things that others find critically essential.  It will help each of us to ponder why any of these topics could be viewed differently from our own perspective.  If any reason you see below stumps you as to why someone could believe otherwise, ask around or contact me, and I can share with you some discussions with the ‘people’ I have encountered over my years, it probably will amaze you!

    Great list – I would add just one more item to it – Self-Defense Skills. Be it an ability to use weapon or hand-to-hand combat or combined I think it is something that shouldn’t be overlooked in our preparations. Times are strange and people act unexpectedly in extreme situations, so it is good to know how to defend what you have and others don’t

    • Thank you for your observation. I wanted to include your comment so I can continue to detail my thoughts about this whole prepper thing! To address everything properly, Self Defense is an Attitude of preparedness, for sure. However, focusing upon it creates a mild form of paranoia that detracts from our goal. I am speaking from a person with multiple belts and training in several martial arts systems. If each of us follows a regimen of physical activity and ‘physical education’ that includes strength and dexterity training we would be more focused upon our goal (of prepping and survival.) Remember the greatest rule of self-defense: “To NOT be there.” We must focus upon what we want in life, and strengthen ourselves towards that goal. The Shaolin philosophy doesn’t teach a competition form of martial arts. They focus upon yourself and your self confidence. In my case, I believe I can survive combat with just about any one out there, but it took many years of hard training and ‘knocks’ getting there. Ultimately, I found I center around the core beliefs ‘Chi’ of a person. I was hoping to help others by providing them a path that accomplished more than fighting. There is an example of a Japanese Tea Ceremony master who was challenged to a fight. He was afraid, since he didn’t know weapons. When he approached a weapons master and told him of his plight, the weapons master asked him his skills. After learning of the Mastery of the Tea Ceremony skill, the weapons master bowed reverently to the Tea Ceremony master, because all he had to do was show him how to hold a blade and basic moves to survive his ordeal. Hopefully this philosophy comes through. It has been very difficult for me to get rid of this anger and hatred for bad things happening around me. I am working towards seeing the greater good in my fellow man, so that we can make our society that much better. As you believe, we need to keep prepared, physically, for our goals and dreams.     I had no idea how to approach this berfoe-now I’m locked and loaded.
