Did you know that there are Federal bills which may “regulate” your home garden, making it illegal to plant a vegetable garden in your yard?
It’s true. Laws to govern whether or not you can privately grow your own food, and regulations governing HOW your food is grown and stored may seem ridiculous…but it’s happening.
For anyone not familiar with bill HR 875,I suggest looking up this information for yourself. I found the best way to search for results online is to simply search the bill itself – HR 875

the responses to articles are worth looking through. Also, know this is ALREADY PASSED. This bill, when read very very carefully, doesn’t straight out say ‘illegal to garden at home, but the language is so loose that it could very easily be used in a negative way against all of us. The people sponsoring the bill have links to MONSANTO. Again, if you are not familiar with MONSANTO this is worth looking into.
“from the bill (HR 875): (14) FOOD PRODUCTION FACILITY- The term ‘food production facility’ means any farm, ranch, orchard, vineyard, aquaculture facility, or confined animal-feeding operation.
Note that what qualifies as a farm is not defined.”
What purpose would this serve?
Well, this Bill is designed to make all agriculture legal to big corporations only. It would serve to hinder any common people, like ourselves, the ability to grow our own food in a SURVIVAL situation. Think of that!
Good news is by the time you will NEED to use your survival garden there will be worse things to worry about than anyone coming snooping around to site you for your lawlessness.
Why is a survival garden important?
Well, your survival garden will be specifically made up of plants that will help you survive in the event of a disaster. Of course, the more variety you are able to grow the better. Assuming space is limited, however, your survival garden should consist of
- plants that grow quickly
- plants that grow in most any weather
- plants that are the most nutrient and protein rich of all in case it is your only food source.
As always, anything in your Prepper tool box should be field tested. This means you should most definitely start your garden now to be sure you know everything you need to know about planting and growing for when the time comes. Hopefully you will be able to sustain yourself and family off of your starter garden, but if you had to uproot from your home, you would have to start over. If you have not tested out your hand at survival gardening, your seeds might end up food for the birds (literally). So start now choosing what is best for you.
Organic gardening is important to me and my family. Pesticides are just the least of the evils our food is subject to when we are eating “non-organic”. I am not anywhere close to being a master gardener. Just doing my research and trying my hand at this years first home garden at my house. We have a list of veggies, herbs, and fruit that so far are doing very well considering the desert climate we live in. The Rutabaga, which after some research I found to be loaded with health benefits, is a prefect survival food to add to my list.
Survival garden priority crops
Because of the Rutabaga’s many health benefits, and the fact that it is an easy crop to grow, being first used as a survival crop, I am including it in my survival garden list.
The Rutabaga is actually a very old survival food. History shows in Europe, during the 17th century, it was not only eaten but also used for animal fodder.
Rutabaga’s are planted in May and June, they’re harvested in late summer and early fall and thrive in colder climates making it an easy crop to supplement your diet with once other harvests are over. They will store up to 1 month in fridge and up to 4 months in commercial storage at 32 degrees. I have not yet planted ruta’s in the garden, but plan to this next month.
Regular consumption of rutabaga increases milk production capacity, stamina and digestion. Being an excellent source of vitamin C, rutabagas help reduce wheezing in asthma patients. Lack of vitamin C results in scurvy, which causes easy bruising, loss of teeth, and I have been told is a form of cancer. (BTW, I am not claiming Rutabaga’s or any of these vegetables do anything as far as healing or curing because that too is now a crime in America) Consuming rutabagas considerably reduces the incidence of bruising. An excellent source of potassium, rutabagas help in decreasing stroke mortality. Potassium is also known to lower high blood pressure. Rutabagas are very low in Saturated Fat and Cholesterol. They’re also a good source of Thiamin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Calcium, Magnesium and Phosphorus, and an excellent source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin C, Potassium and Manganese, also recommended for people with constipation. Rutabagas are also known to reduce the risk of cataract formation and support the structure of capillaries.

The sad truth is no matter how good our list of survival crops is, they don’t mean a thing if we can’t get them to grow. I recommend trying your hand at gardening while you have time and before the need for survival crops comes. You could be in for a RUTA-WAKENING if the only food you have to eat is the food you are able to grow.
