You never know when you will need a cheap and easy meal that can be warmed quickly, and can be brought back to life almost immediately. Some foods just don’t freeze well, so here is a list of five dishes that do not look good after you put it in the freezer, but still taste great despite their lackluster appearance.
Soups that have been frozen for heating later look terrible in their containers. You can see that it was once a liquid, and it is hard to imagine ice that has the same flavor as a soup. You could prepare several soups at one time, and each soup can be placed in your freezer for a day when you simply do not have time to prepare anything worth eating.
Pizzas that are frozen after baking may not seem appetizing at the time, but these pizzas will come back to life quickly in the oven. You could stack several pizzas in your freezer for a rainy day, and you will have a chance to bake them each when you need them. Pizzas take up very little space, but they do not look fantastic after being frozen. Give all the ingredients a chance to come back to life in the oven before you write them off.
Bread may seem like the last thing that should go in your freezer, and it is hard to imagine a loaf of bread tasting good after it has been frozen. The ice crystals inside the packaging for the bread may put you off, but a loaf of bread can be used for any purpose once it has been thawed. You can place the bread in your oven at 200 to thaw, and you will have a fresh loaf of bread in just a few minutes.
Casseroles do not look good when they have been frozen. There is a topping that covers the casserole and that topping alone can look a bit unappealing when it is in the freezer, and you cannot imagine how that topping will be crispy again. You can put any casserole in the freezer for a later date, and the boiler in your oven will crisp the topping once again. Casseroles are easy to make, and they are very filling when you need a quick meal to eat.
Vegetables that you have baked in your oven with seasoning may not seem very appetizing when you put them in the freezer. A full bag of veggies will be completely stiff, but you can bring life back to the vegetables when you place them back in the oven. The vegetables will see the moisture melt away in the oven, and you will have the same crispy texture you got when you baked them the first time around.
Planning Your Meals
Sticking with simple foods that freeze well is better than attempting to make complicated dishes that will not freeze well in the freezer. The ingredients you purchase are quite expensive, and the time that you put into each dish should not be wasted. Storing leftover in the freezer also makes cheap emergency food.
You can use any of the five foods above as emergency food, and your family will have something to eat when there is simply not enough time to cook. The appearance of each dish may not be fantastic once it goes in the freezer, but this emergency food will save you when you are in a hurry.
