Preparedness Expos large and small help to build the growing preparedness and self-reliance movement. You Live Free organization is actively participating and supporting these real-deal events where the “New Americans” can gather, network and organize for the challenges of our times. These events go beyond just prepping. They are active, outreaching and making a difference in the future. Below are brief reports on two events that we participated in in late 2015.
NW Indiana Family Prep Expo
The Northwest Indiana Family Prep group recently held their First Annual (we hope) “NW Indiana Prepares” expo at the American Military Vehicles Museum on the east side of Crown Point Indiana. The event was held on Saturday September 20 th and ran from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This event was supported by a number other regional groups. Northwest Indiana Family Prep is a Live Free chapter and Live Free was able to provide several speakers and other forms of support. Admission was free as was space for vendors’ to set up tables or outdoor kiosk shelters’ to sell survival related goods. A full program of speakers and instructors was available in the main tent throughout the day. Subjects included, urban farming, beekeeping, aquaponics, herbal health, alternative energy, shotgun basics, bug out bags and the 5 C’s of survival. Archery classes were held and a BB gun range was also popular. The military vehicles were open for tours and hotdogs, chips and water were provided as well. Since most of the facilities and equipment were contributed our investment was limited. While we operated at “no charge” we did request contributions. Income from these contributions well exceeded our costs. Participation was good and most vendors did well.
The Northwest Indiana Family Prep group and Live Free USA are considering how to build on this event in 2015. We sure want to hear from any potential vendors and speaker as soon as possible. The event was cut short by a rather violent thunderstorm. This did reduce some late sales and cut out a few speakers. We are considering an indoor venue if we do this next year, but that involves more cost and passably charging for admission. This event along with the ones done by the North Central Indian Live Free Group and the Live Free supported DeWitt County Sportsman Club expo are prime examples of just what a small Live Free chapter can and should be doing. These programs provide a public service, increase membership, raise funds and energize chapters. In our current and growing crop of interrelated disasters and threats members and chapters cannot simply prep, wait and hope. We have to act and make a difference.

Great Lakes Preparedness Expo
The Great Lakes Preparedness Expo was held in Birch Run Michigan this past October 4th at the Birch Run Expo Center. This was the fourth major preparedness event that Live Free USA had participated In 2014. Although this is a one-day show, it was very well attended and involvement from participants was at a high level. Live Free made two stage presentations’ during the day and gathered lots of good contacts and new supporters. We look forward to cooperation and support for our new members and supporters in Michigan and Ohio throughout the coming year and will have a both at the Birch Run Expo next April 11th.
The sponsors of this event have scheduled the next expo at Birch Run for April 11th 2015. They will also hold an expo in Pennsylvania in May and are considering Grand Rapids MI or Springfield IL for an expo next fall. Even with discount considerations, tables and booths at such events can cost three to four-hundred dollars. Additionally: Live Free members manning the booths pay for their own fuel, lodging and meals. However, we can make more key contacts, get more members and open more doors at one expo than a whole year of blogs, seminars and meetings. Book sales did cover the cost of the booth at this event.
NOTE: As of this writing we intend to participate in the next expo in Birch Run on April 11th, Camp Independence in north Indiana on May 16th, an expo in Appleton WI and one in Central IL later in 2015. Check our website events section for further details.
