I’ve been through a lot of hurricanes in my life, some mild, some very bad. I always lost power and it was a real struggle not being fully prepared. That’s why I believe so much in being a Prepper. When hurricane Hugo hit us, it took not only the power (no cooking, etc), but it took out the water and sewer too. The storm surge actually destroyed the lines running under the road (Ocean Blvd) and our water and waste treatment plant went down completely.
That’s when I decided that one day, I would invent a truly high quality water storage system that could be easily stored, stand on its own or be used in a bathtub or truck bed. Well I did, putting everything I had in savings to make it reality. I am proud that I was able to accomplish this even though it failed to sell and cost me everything. I was wrong about people. This was my mistake and downfall.
I should have realized that my emergency water system was going to have the same reaction that the gas stations and supermarkets get – everyone panics at the last minute and the mobs of people flood the stores. I thought that at least some people would want to be prepared – properly and safely prepared for a disaster ahead of time. I was wrong.
Please people – don’t be one of those that try to get bread and water from the supermarket hours before the storm strikes. Be a Prepper and help educate as many people as you can. You can run from a disaster, but you always have to come back – many times to very primitive living conditions for awhile.
