Alex is a 61 year old software developer who has worked in 22 countries. He is scottish and is currently based in Gaborone Botswana. In 1996 an old friend of his – dick day – died and he decided that he had to do something useful with his life. Alex spent the first 20 years of his career as a mechanical and agricultural engineer including 6 years in tanzania doing appropriate technology. He went to cambodia in 2000 to do a short volunteer project and was amazed to find out how much material there was but how difficult it was to find especially when your band width is low. He spent literally years collecting material and made it available online and critically offline.
