Media Resources

If you are doing research into the Prepper Movement, we have several background documents on the movement and the APN in particular.  We hope you will find the following resources helpful:

  • What is a Prepper? What makes someone a Prepper and why they do what they do.  We also discuss some of the myths around Prepping and provide a background of the Prepper Movement over the last 40 years and the APN’s involvement in that.
  • The Five Principles of Preparedness: presents the five core principles that the APN believes every Prepper should subscribe to.
  • Path of the Prepper: describes in writing and visually how Preppers learn and mentor each other
  • About the APN: discusses the APN, its history and its goals and objectives.  It also provides bios and backgrounds for the leaders of the APN.
  • Get Started in Prepping:  a resource we provide for new Preppers.  It will help researchers understand what goes into “being a Prepper” and what we encourage newcomers to begin doing.

General Guidelines

We greatly appreciate the Media’s interest in Prepping and strongly support dissemination of information about Prepping.  We feel very strongly that the media should portray Prepping in a positive light and will not support, endorse or participate in any media effort to show Preppers and Prepping as a “fringe activity” or to sensationalize the things we do.  In saying this, we are not trying to dissuade fact finding or the discovery process and are not trying to limit you to only positive reviews.  However, pursuing the research process with the forgone conclusion that Preppers are “nuts” will find you stonewalled in gaining access to our audience and contacts.

The APN works regularly with the media to help them find appropriate contacts who fit the demographic they are interested in.  Please feel free to contact us for exploratory reasons or to communicate with the leadership of the APN.  We are an information organization and our mission is to help you bring information about Prepping to the general public.

While you will find many Preppers who do not like their names used in public, you may refer to the leadership of the APN by their full, legal names as follows: “Tom Martin, Founder” or “Tom Martin, Co-Owner”, “Hugh Vail, President” or “Hugh Vail, Co-Owner”, “Phil Burns, CTO” or “Phil Burns, Co-Owner”

The APN is a Utah Corporation.
