Prepping for and with Kids
2 min read
The little ones need guidance. If adults are afraid to admit their vulnerability and start preparing for disaster, kids are even more at risk. One of the most interesting things about children is the fact that they are powerless against disaster unless you train and prepare them.
Even at a very young age you can start to instill a lifestyle that resonates preparedness, self reliance and independence. There are many different ways you can do this and we are going to discuss them in this short article. Remember, you are the road they follow, above all, they see everything you do. It all affects them. If you are always late and never prepared that is what they will see. They will digest that and formulate who they want to be.
Gardening
The earliest start you can give your child is the creation of a garden. You are going to be able to introduce them to several defining things with a garden. One is that food can be grown without serious infrastructure. The second is creating a relationship between the child and fresh vegetables and that has lifelong benefits. Finally you will show them that you can sustain yourself but it takes work. All great pursuits take work.
Wilderness Adventure
No matter how urban your setting you have to take children into the woods. When you take them camping, fishing, hunting or hiking, its an incredible opportunity to show children what the natural world is all about. They will learn the plants, animals and the beauty that hides in it all. Its also going to be your first chance to appropriately introduce them to survival gear.
A compass might not make sense in the living room but get on the top of a mountain with a map and kids will get it.
Watching TV!!
You might not expect this but you should watch tv with your kids. You should watch programming that interests you with your kids. Letting them watch cartoons is good but you can teach kids a lot if it comes from someone on a screen and they get a break from Mom or Dad barking at them. It might sound counter-intuitive but it adds stitches to that creation of yours.
Kids are the future of the world and the future of preparedness. You can carve them and guide them to be their best.
