Welcome to the pre-launch of the APN National Disaster Reporting Service. We are seeking volunteers to establish a network of disaster “spotters” and disaster “reporters” to help stay on top of disasters and emergencies as they arise. The plan is to develop a reporting service that will update people on disasters immediately as they happen and to provide tips and information on what people in the affected areas can do. I don’t expect to have anything as huge and sophisticated as NOAA or the Whether Channel, but common people like us are normally the first to notice a disaster. News and media outlets rely heavily on people who see something and call in. The goal here is to have a network of “common people” who see these things and get the word out as soon as possible both here on our networks and direct that information to the major news outlets.
We need people to fill the following volunteer positions.
We need at least 100 people nationwide to volunteer to watch for disasters in their areas. Anything that warrants attention; tornadoes, earthquakes, terrorist attacks, blizzards, bridge collapses etc… As a “Disaster Spotter” it will be your responsibility to let us know when a disaster strikes or when a storm is about to hit.
As much information as possible will need to be gathered. Including the following:
a) Type of disaster: earthquake, tornado, bridge collapse, etc..
b) Location. What affected State(s), counties, cities etc… including size and scope of the disaster
c) Federal/State/Local contact numbers and emergency hot-lines and websites for updated information
e) Emergency and safety tips for that particular disaster
f) Federal/State/Local evacuation plan if available
g) Local shelters if any are established
h) Take pictures and/or video if possible
You will also need to contact the local authorities and news media outlets if they are not already aware of the situation.
Types of media and services to use to watch for disasters:
*Local news, TV and radio channels, and local government and news websites
*NOAA emergency radio
*HAM and shortwave radio
*Word of mouth
*Seeing it with your own eyes
Once you’ve gathered and validated all the information possible you would then will email that information to
NDRS@AmericanPreppersNetwork.com. That information would then be forwarded to 10 “Disaster Reporters” as well as APN admin. Once your report has been received and sources verified, we will have it posted simultaneously in the following locations: This blog, The American Preppers Network forum, The affected States blog, and the affected states forum. The person who first spots and the person who first reports on the disaster will be the ones most responsible for following news and information regarding that disaster
We need at least 10 people to volunteer to be “Disaster Reporters”
Duties will include:
*You will need to be someone who checks their email regularly, at least once per day. Your email will be kept private, but any emails coming to NDRS@AmericanPreppersNetwork.com will be automatically forwarded to your address.
*Once you receive the news on a disaster it will be up to you to verify the source and re-post on the above listed locations. The first one to report will be the one most responsible for following the story and staying up to date on the news.
*It will also be your responsibility to work with the person who emailed you to contact the local authorities and news agencies if they are not already aware of the situation.
*The 10 Volunteers who take the position of “Disaster Reporter” will share a google blogger account that will have posting privileges on all of our state sites and APN, therefore you will need to follow our disclaimer and agreement that you will receive once you apply, you will also have to agree to only use that account for reporting on disasters. No personal, political posts, or commenting from that account will be allowed. You will also have to be willing to provide personal contact information such as name, phone number and physical address to the APN admin. This information will also be kept private.
It’s our hope to be able to have a nationwide disaster reporting service that people can rely on and hopefully be able to pick up on news that the main stream media either misses or is late to report on. If you are interested in either serving as a “Disaster Spotter” or “Disaster Reporter” please join our forum and follow this link: http://www.americanpreppersnetwork.net/post4076.html#p4076.
